We are delighted to be working on behalf of a leading engineering contractor, recruiting for an experienced Health and Safety Site Manager – Permit Control to oversee safety and permit management on a large M&E project in Morayshire, Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity for a Health and Safety professional with strong experience in managing site safety and the permit-to-work system to take on a key leadership role on-site.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the health and safety on-site, with a particular focus on the permit-to-work process, ensuring that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with relevant health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take overall responsibility for the management and administration of the permit-to-work (PTW) system on-site, ensuring all work activities are properly authorised.
- Collaborate with site management, contractors, and the safety team to ensure all necessary safety checks, risk assessments, and documentation are completed before work commences.
- Conduct audits and inspections to monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Proactively identify potential hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure all site personnel are appropriately trained and qualified to carry out work under the PTW system.
- Maintain accurate records of permits issued and ensure the safe closure of permits once tasks are completed.
- Work closely with the Site Manager and Health and Safety team to promote a strong safety culture and improve safety performance across the site.
- Report safety incidents, near misses, and breaches promptly, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Attend site meetings to discuss ongoing safety performance, compliance, and risk management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
- Proven experience as a Permit Controller or in a similar Health and Safety role within the construction or M&E sectors.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) qualification is an advantage.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Desirable:
- IOSH Managing Safely or higher qualification.
- Experience in large-scale M&E or construction projects.
- First Aid at Work certification.
Contract:
- Full-time, on-site
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- Project duration: 7 Months
